GCSE Results 2017 - News and Pictures
At Harris Academy South Norwood, 39% of students achieved the EBacc suite of qualifications (A*-C or 4 and above in the core academic subjects), compared to 35% in the equivalent measure last year.
The academy achieved 81% grade 4 and above in English Literature. 72% of students gained a 4 or above in maths.
An impressive 18 English literature students achieved the new ‘super grade’ 9, while 5 students achieved a double 9 in English literature and English language. Indeed 40% of all grades in English were 7 or better. A genuinely remarkable achievement.
All students did really well and there were 19 students at the academy who gained seven or more As and A*s, but some notable individual successes included:
- Shewana Islam – nine A*s
- Maya Gannon – eight A*s and an A
- Kimberley Bailey – six A*s and four As
- Eliana O Oworu - five A*s and six As
- Kamran Bhatti – four A*s and five As
At Harris Academy Upper Norwood, 30% of students achieved the EBacc (A*-C or 4 and above in the core academic subjects).
There were some outstanding subject performances, with 42% of History students and 39% of Religious Studies students gaining A*-A.
Five students achieved seven As and A*s:
- Samantha Murfett – five A*s and two As
- Uzma Niazi – five A*s and five As
- Gopika Premkumar – six As and three A*s
- Aila Shah – six As and four A*s
- Ellie McEachron – seven As
Nick Soar, Executive Principal of Harris Academy South Norwood and Harris Academy Upper Norwood, said:
“Well done to all our students across Harris Academy South Norwood and Harris Academy Upper Norwood who have done themselves proud with this year’s results. I’m particularly pleased with their strong performance in light of the maths and English curriculum changes this year.
