2024 Exam Results

Record Year at Harris Academy South Norwood as Students Celebrate GCSE Results

Students at Harris Academy South Norwood are receiving their incredible GCSE results today as the Academy celebrates its best-ever results. Performance was very strong across the curriculum with excellent results in English, maths, science, history, religious education, art and Spanish. There were an amazing 20 Grade 9s in triple science and 15 Grade 9s in English.

The Academy recorded it highest average GCSE score per student by some margin with large numbers of 8s and 9 across the cohort. These include Heli Patel who achieved eight Grade 9s and one Grade 8 and Caterina Malangone who achieved seven grade 9s and four Grade 8s.  Heli and Caterina achieved the much sought-after Grade 9 in both English and maths.

Other top performers include:

  • Alan who achieved six Grade 9s and two Grade 8s;
  • Kanisha who achieved six Grade 9s and three Grade 8s;
  • Harini who achieved three Grade 9s and six Grade 8s;
  • Maya who achieved five Grade 9s and three Grade 8s;
  • Natalia who achieved five Grade 9s and six Grade 8s;
  • Karen who achieved four Grade 9s and three Grade 8s;
  • Aisha who achieved six Grade 9s;
  • Carlton who achieved three Grade 9s and four Grade 8s;
  • Ginevra who achieved three Grade 9s and five Grade 8s;
  • Hanna who achieved four Grade 9s and three Grade 8s;
  • Julian who achieved four Grade 9s and four Grade 8s;
  • Michelle who achieved four Grade 9s and two Grade 8s;
  • Aisha who achieved one Grade 9 and six Grade 8s;
  • Mahi who achieved two Grade 9s and five Grade 8s.

Whilst the Academy is incredibly proud of its highest performing students, it is equally proud of those students who have made the greatest progress and overcome difficult personal challenges.  This included two students, whose entire worlds were uprooted in January when they were moved to housing outside of the borough.  This meant they had a two-hour journey to and from school travelling on three buses and often taxis (subsidised by the Academy).  The students were leaving home before 6am and returning after 7pm. Despite the long journey, both students still stayed for extra revision sessions and pushed themselves as hard as they possible could. Today the girls are celebrating some phenomenal GCSE results including Grade 8s in their English GCSE.

Principal Rob Hitch commented:

“I am so proud of all our students. Their hard work, for many in the face of adversity, has really paid off and they deserve to be celebrating today.   As an Academy, we are pleased to be celebrating our best-ever results but, more importantly, we are thrilled to see our students achieve the grades they need to move onto Sixth Form and study the courses they want.  We wish them all the very best and look forward to welcoming many of them to our Sixth Form.”
