Key Stage Four

Key Stage Four at Harris Academy South Norwood

At Harris Academy South Norwood (HASN), we are immensely proud to be recognised as the top-performing co-educational school in Croydon and one of the best in the country when contextual factors are taken into account. Our exceptional outcomes reflect our unwavering commitment to academic excellence, personalised support, and fostering a love of learning across all subject areas.

Core Curriculum

Key Stage Four is a pivotal stage in our student's education, and we ensure every student is equipped with the essential knowledge and skills to thrive in their future endeavours. All students study a core curriculum, which includes:

  • English Language and Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Science (Combined or Triple Science)
  • Core PE (Physical Education)
  • Religious Education

This core curriculum ensures students leave with a strong foundation in the critical subjects that underpin success in further education and the workplace.

A Diverse and Exciting Range of Options

In addition to their core studies, students choose four further subjects from an extensive range of options, allowing them to tailor their education to their interests, strengths, and career aspirations. These options include but are not limited to:

  • Humanities: History, Geography
  • Languages: French, Spanish
  • Creative Subjects: Art, Drama, Music, Media Studies
  • Technological and Practical Subjects: Design Technology, Food Technology, Computer Science, Business Studies
  • Vocational Options: CNAT Sport and IT

Our curriculum is designed to inspire students while providing them with a breadth of knowledge and the opportunity to explore their passions.

Outstanding Achievements

HASN is home to some truly exceptional talent. Last year, a History student achieved the top mark in the country, a testament to the high standards of teaching and learning within our academy. Similarly, our Science department is the top-performing across the Harris Federation, ensuring students excel in this vital subject area. These remarkable achievements highlight our culture of excellence and the dedication of our students and staff.

Support and Guidance

We provide personalised support and guidance to ensure every student makes informed decisions about their options and reaches their full potential. This includes:

  • Specialist subject teachers who bring enthusiasm and expertise to every lesson.
  • Specialist careers advisors who meet with every Year 11 and sixth form students as well as groups of year 9 and 10 students
  • Dedicated pastoral support to help students navigate the challenges of Key Stage Four.
  • A robust Careers Education programme, aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks, helping students plan their futures with confidence.

Aiming High, Achieving More

At Harris Academy South Norwood, we believe every student can achieve greatness. By providing a broad, balanced, and ambitious curriculum, combined with a nurturing and aspirational environment, we prepare our students to excel not just at Key Stage Four, but in every aspect of their lives.

We look forward to continuing to celebrate the successes of our incredible students as they make their mark on the world.
