Key Stage 5 Lecture on Volcanoes
On Monday 13th January 2020, 12 of our Year 12 students went to Harris Westminster for extra-curricular lecture on ‘How to Look Inside a Volcano’ from Professor Chris Jackson of Imperial College. The lecture was in an depth look at how Geography and Physics can be used together to gain a better understanding of how the historical structure of a volcano and the seismic activity triggering them, can allow volcanologists and other geophysicists to understand whether volcanic eruptions can actually be predicted.
The students found the lecture really engaging and allowed them to understand how challenging volcanic hazard mitigation is, particularly for countries with fewer financial and educational resources. This lecture will provide some additional information for their ongoing study of Hazards as part of the OCR A-Level specification.
