Harris Academy South Norwood: GCSEs 2021
Congratulations to Year 11 at Harris Academy South Norwood on their excellent GCSE results today.
All our students deserve our praise and congratulations, but special mentions must be made of all of the following:
Aicha is clear proof that hard work pays off. A diligent and thoroughly meticulous student who her teachers universally describe as a ‘star pupil’, Aicha has achieved the outstanding feat of Nine 9’s, including maths, English literature and language and triple science. 100% of the subjects she took were 9’s.
Aicha will be staying at Harris Academy South Norwood for Sixth Form to study a blend of science and social sciences and is undecided about what career path she’d like to take. Whatever she chooses the Academy knows she will achieve her goals.
Keerthannan is another student who has achieved incredible results which comprising six grade 9’s including in chemistry, maths, computing and physics. He is a tri-lingual student whose first languages are Italian and Hindi. He also achieved a 9 in English as well as a 7 in a fourth language, French.
Keerthanan is an aspiring doctor who will now go onto study chemistry, biology and maths at Harris Academy South Norwood as he begins his journey towards a career in medicine or engineering. His outstanding results today show the hard-work and perseverance he has given to STEM subjects while at the Academy.
Sinead has achieved 9’s in both English Literature and Language. She has constantly impressed the head of English with her development during her GCSE studies, especially her understanding of poetry and drama.
At age 13, Sinead came fourth in a London-wide talent contest with only students aged 16 and above finishing ahead of her. This experience culminated in her successfully auditioning for the National Youth Theatre in 2020 and in achieving a 9 in this year’s drama GCSE results.
Sinead’s musical talent also achieved her an additional qualification as a grade 6 singer alongside her Distinction in Vocational Music. Sinead is a budding young actor whose success in these subjects has been down to her passion and drive and she will stay at Harris Academy South Norwood to study Drama, English and History.
Kimmy is an all-round achiever who scored an incredible seven 9’s while studying at Harris Academy South Norwood. A native Vietnamese speaker, she achieved a 9 in both English Literature and English language – this is a testament to her hard-work and dedication with the subject.
Kimmy is a dancer who has achieved success and multiple qualifications in disciplines as varied as modern, ballet, street and tap and who’s unique stylings have earned her acclaim from both internal and external talent competitions. Kimmy incorporated dance skills into her drama performances which helped her to achieve a 9 in GCSE drama. Kimmy also achieved 9’s in Maths, Biology and Physics showing that her success is not limited to the arts.
She is going into the Sixth Form to continue studying a broad range of subjects including maths, psychology, drama and English.
Rob Hitch, Principal of Harris Academy South Norwood, said:

The pandemic has presented so many challenges, but we have been so impressed with their positivity and the way in which they have adapted to new ways of learning.
