Year 9 Options

All students study English Literature, English Language, Maths and Science. Students must select four other optional subjects. Students must choose either Geography or History and then three other subjects. They may choose to study both History and Geography.

You will need to choose one option from each of the four option blocks along with a reserve subject in each block. Students following the Ebacc pathway must also choose a language either French or Spanish.

To help your discussions with your child:

  1. Read through the Option Subject Booklet with your child. It contains a lot of useful information about each course such as the course content and specification details (See Bottom of page).
  2. Watch the Subject Presentations from our Heads of Department below, as they will answer many frequently asked questions.
  3. Research some possible careers using Unifrog - Students have a login to this excellent resource.
  4. Your child will have an assembly on Monday the 18th March to explain the process with the Vice Principal for CurriculumMs Whitehall-Bentt and Mr Robinson.
  5. There will be Parents and Options Evening on Tuesday 21st February. This will be with the Vice Principal for CurriculumMs Whitehall-Bentt and Mr Robinson who will be able to answer any further questions.
  6. You will be emailed a link to the online Options form and we ask that this is submitted by Friday 24th March
  7. During the fortnight beginning 19th February students have had an opportunity to attend taster sessions with the subject area that they have not studied at KS3. This will help to understand what that subject is like and support their decision.

The forms that you use to submit your final Options Choices will appear below. Please only complete this form once you have:

  1. Researched what careers, university and A Levels you would like to do.
  2. Read through the Options Booklet with your parents.
  3. Watched the videos from Subject Leaders on the website.

To complete the form you must: * Answer every question. * Choose a First Choice and Reserve Choice for Each Option Block (the questions are next to each other). * You must choose History or Geography in one of the Option Blocks as a First Choice. Students following the Ebacc pathway must also choose a language either French or Spanish. * You can only choose a Language that you have studied in Years 8 and 9 (any queries about this please speak to Ms Whitehall-bent).  Please email any questions to Ms Whitehall-Bent, Assistant Principal for year 9: Whitehall-BenttL@harrissouthnorwood.org.uk
